When finishing the high school course, not every student has the chance or ability to go to college. Some students choose to seek a job, start their own business or pursue other interest. However, for some students who want to get further education, they choose self-education, self-education is no better than university studies.
On the one hand, self-education lacks of a well-defined structure. In the school, the teacher will make some plans for students’ studies; they plan the target, the fulfillment of expectation and assesent of the program. With these, students can know their own flaws, making progress gradually. While self-learners may lose themselves, they have no test, no homework and no exam; it is hard for them to know how to get improved.
On the other hand, self-education doesn’t provide the environment which students can learn from each other. College provides students the stage to communicate with others, making friends; students can also have the chance to enhance the ability of team work and readership. Those abilities are very important for students, when they are finding a job, they have the advantages.
Self-education is a way of gaining knowledge; I prefer to study in college, because I like to communicate with friends. Though self-education can’t take place for university studies, we can choose to learn elective courses in that way.

Last September I left my hometown with heavy baggage and after a journey of ten hours, I came to this dream campus with great expectation and excitement.
I was deeply attracted by the elegant environment of our campus the moment I stepped into the university. Straight, wide roads enjoyed the shade and shelter provided by lordly, green trees. Ancient buildings of great refinement enjoyed the company of flocks of birds flying and singing overhead. Scrolls of warm welcome greeted me and volunteers with iles came to my help. My heart was filled with warmth. Yeah, this is the place where I will spend 4 years and this place will be my home!
Whenever I recall the past days, so many thoughts are flooding in my mind. But what impressed me most is a night when I got a stomachache during the first days. I had to turn to the aunts in charge of our dormitory for help. They were so friendly and warm-hearted. They gave me the pills and reminded me of having more hot water. I recovered soon and I thanked them from the bottom of my heart because they brought me the warmth of home.
Our university is a famous academic center. The teaching staff are all learned professors. Many of them are world-wide known for their wide range of knowledge and charming personality. I respect my teachers! I admire my teachers! I love my teachers! Various activities are carried here. They not only bring me happiness but also improve myself. I meet with a lot of ctes and make a large number of friends. When I feel upset, the will give me a hand; when I am happy, I will share with them. The library has a large collection of books and I always lose myself in it. I believe they will benefit me a lot and are to broaden the roads of my future.
I love you,University! You are just a place which gives me warmth and strengths! You are my home!
Good afternoon. Ladies and Gentlemen,
Today I will say something about my family love.
I remember when I was younger. My family lived a simple life. We weren't wealthy by any stretch of the imagination, but we were content with what we had.
Our first vehicle was an old broken-down bicycle. It provided us with transportation on many enjoyable weekends and holidays. Mom sat on the back while Dad pedaled. I, a mere toddler at the time, rode on the bar in front of him. It didn't matter where we were going as long as we were going there together.
Not long after that, my family moved to Hainan. Relying on my parents, courage and persistence, they started their own business. As a result, we were soon able to replace the bike with a new car. So we could travel further on our excursions. Our family's happy laughter filled the car as we traveled to many distant locations in China. Many years have gone by since those happy days, but we're still as close as ever.
Recently, the airplane has become our mode of transportation as we venture beyond the confines of China to see the world. We were able to experience firsthand the uniqueness of Amsterdam, the romance of Paris, and the elegance of Vienna. But yet, such fantastic sites were nothing compared to the love of our family.
Time goes by swiftly, and everything is changing all the time.Yet the love existing in my family always remains. It is the source of our happiness; It,s the source of all of our ideals: confidence, courage, and faith. But it goes so much deeper than that; it warms our very hearts. So I will acclaim for the eternal and awesome love in my family and let it go on forever!
Thank you very much!
Good afternoon everybody! It's my honor to speak here and I am very glad toshare my topic with all of you. Today I'd like to talk about “my dream”. I donot just have one dream, in fact, I have three. They are: a healthy life, ahappy family and to travel my great country.
I have always admired the long healthy life my grandparents have. They areolder than 80 years of age and they are still alive and kicking! How do they dothat!? My grandparents plant vegetables and grow rice themselves; even in theirold age they still make food for themselves! I guess that is why they can remainhealthy. More importantly they remain humble and never ask for too much fromlife. Perhaps that makes them common, but they live a happy life. My grandmotheronce told me this:” I do not want to live long, only long enough for some grandchildren to be running around in my house”. I want to live a long, healthy andhappy life just as they have.
Since my graduation from primary school, until now, every time on my birthdayI make the same wish. I wish my parents will not fight anymore. I am notcomplaining that they gave me a bad childhood, they just fight so much! I amunhappy but that does not mean they do not love me. They do! They love me withall their heart. I love my parents also; I want them to live a happy life aswell.
I want to travel this great country of ours. I want to see the beauty of ourcountry. I want to see the miracles that made this country great! I want to gofrom the east to west, from the north all the way down to the south! I have adream, that one day I can travel and see my country with my family and friends! If that is not possible, seeing my country on my own is good enough also. If Ican fulfill all three of my dreams in life, then God can take me away. I wouldbe happy, and l would have lived a full and prosperous life.
Thank you everyone for listening to my dreams.
I thank you!
Good morning, Ladies and Gentlemen:
Today I'm very happy to be here to share with you some of my thoughts on the topic of Globalization. And first of all, I would like to mention an event in our recent history.
Thirty years ago, American President Richard Nixon made an epoch-making visit to China, a country still isolated at that time. Premier Zhou Enlai said to him, "Your handshake came over the vastest ocean in the world - twenty-five years of no communication." Ever since then, China and America have exchanged many handshakes of various kinds. The fundamental implication of this example is that the need and desire to communicate across differences in culture and ideology is not only felt by the two countries but by many other nations as well.
As we can see today, environmentalists from different countries are making joint efforts to address the issue of global warming, economists are seeking solutions to financial crises that rage in a particular region but nonetheless cripple the world's economy, and diplomats and politicians are getting together to discuss the issue of combating terrori. Peace and prosperity has become a common goal that we are striving for all over the world. Underlying this mighty trend of globalization is the echo of E. M. Forster's words, "Only connect!"
With the IT revolution taking place, traditional boundaries of human society fall away. Our culture, politics, society and commerce are being sloshed into a large melting pot of humanity. In this interlinked world, there are no outsiders, for a disturbance in one place is likely to impact other parts of the globe. We have begun to realize that a world divided cannot endure.
China is now actively integrating into the world. Our recent entry to the WTO is a good example. For decades, we have taken pride in being self-reliant, but now we realize the importance of participating in and contributing to a broader economic order. From the precarious role in the world arena to our present WTO membership, we have come a long way.
But what does the way ahead look like? In some parts of the world people are demonstrating against globalization. Are they justified then, in criticizing the globalizing world? Instead of narrowing the gap between the rich and the poor, they say, globalization enables developed nations to swallow the developing nations' wealth in debts and interest. Globalization, they argue, should be about an earnest interest in every other nation's economic health.
We are reminded by Karl Marx that capital goes beyond national borders and eludes control from any other entity. This has become a reality. Multinational corporations are seeking the lowest cost, the largest market, and the most favorable policy. They are often powerful lobbyists in government decision-making, ruthless expansionists in the global market place and a devastating presence to local businesses.
For China, still more challenges exist. How are we going to ensure a ooth transition from the planned economy to a market-based one? How to construct a legal system that is sound enough and broad enough to respond to the needs of a dynamic society? How to maintain our cultural identity in an increasingly homogeneous world? And how to define greatness in our rise as a peace-loving nation? Globalization entails questions that concern us all.
Like many young people my age in China, I want to see my country get prosperous and enjoying respect in the international community. But it seems to me that mere patrioti is not just enough. It is vitally important that we young people do more serious thinking and broaden our mind to bigger issues. And, there might never be easy answers to those issues such as globalization, but to take them on and give them honest thinking is the first step to be prepared for both opportunities and challenges coming our way. And this is also one of the thoughts that came to me while preparing this speech. Thank you.

When I was seven, I started learning English. I played games and sang English songs with other children. Sometimes, I watched English cartoons. It's funny. Then I discovered the beauty of the language, and began my colorful dream in the English world.
I hope I can travel around the world someday. I want to go to America to visit Washington, because my cousin is over there. Of course, I want to go to London too, because England is where English language developed. If I can ride my bike in Cambridge University, I will be very happy.
I hope I can speak English with everyone in the world. Also I'll introduce China to them, such as the Great Wall, and the gardens in Suzhou. I will teaching people of the world about the beautiful language of our country.
I like the English language. To learn English is wonderful. I once wanted to be an English teacher . I also like Chinese literature. When I was really young, I was able to remember lots of poems. I also wanted to be a teacher of Chinese. Now I think that both of my dreams can come true: I will be able to use English to teach foreign friends Chinese and share Chinese culture with them. So that more and more people will be able to get to know the 5000 years' history culture, and the prosperity of our great China.
My future is not a dream.

Today, my speech topic is about my university. Perhaps the middle school time has been read or heard many about the life of university students information, some people say that the university life is blew, also someone says the university life is boring hole, wasted youth. Perhaps, the latter more. Yes, in fact, they said it is correct, because the real experiences they will say are not contradictory. This is because in the University, some people really had a very full, very happy, deep nostalgia this they think is a lifetime can not repeat of the pure land. Also some people, from one into the campus is very disappointed, they think everything with their own imagination. From the muddle along without any aim dawdle, realize when it detects abruptly, as if between one night, University has gone, gone then have their precious youth. Remember, only regret University mixed a few years, but will not have regreton the University. Even those in the school down to his alma mater as a hell on earth, recalled the University of time, often with emotion, even tears. Regardless of your future university how, at least you should always remind ourselves: life is only a university stage.
thank you. thank you, president chen, chairmen ren, vice president chi, vice minister wei. we are delighted to be here today with a very large american delegation, including the first lady and our daughter, who is a student at stanford, one of the schools with which beijing university has a relationship. we have six members of the united states congress; the secretary of state; secretary of commerce; the secretary of agriculture; the chairman of our council of economic advisors; senator sasser, our ambassador; the national security advisor and my chief of staff, among others. i say that to illustrate the importance that the united states places on our relationship with china.
i would like to begin by congratulating all of you, the students, the faculty, the administrators, on celebrating the centennial year of your university. gongxi, beida. (applause.)
as i'm sure all of you know, this campus was once home to yenching university which was founded by american missionaries. many of its wonderful buildings were designed by an american architect. thousands of americans students and professors have come here to study and teach. we feel a special kinship with you.
i am, however, grateful that this day is different in one important respect from another important occasion 79 years ago. in june of 1919, the first president of yenching university, john leighton stuart, was set to deliver the very first commencement address on these very grounds. at the appointed hour, he appeared, but no students appeared. they were all out leading the may 4th movement for china's political and cultural renewal. when i read this, i hoped that when i walked into the auditorium today, someone would be sitting here. and i thank you for being here, very much. (applause.)
over the last 100 years, this university has grown to more than 20,000 students. your graduates are spread throughout china and around the world. you have built the largest university library in all of asia. last year, 20 percent of your graduates went abroad to study, including half of your math and science majors. and in this anniversary year, more than a million people in china, asia, and beyond have logged on to your web site. at the dawn of a new century, this university is leading china into the future.
i come here today to talk to you, the next generation of china's leaders, about the critical importance to your future of building a strong partnership between china and the united states.
the american people deeply admire china for its thousands of years of contributions to culture and religion, to philosophy and the arts, to science and technology. we remember well our strong partnership in world war ii. now we see china at a moment in history when your glorious past is matched by your present sweeping transformation and the even greater promise of your future.
just three decades ago, china was virtually shut off from the world. now, china is a member of more than 1,000 international organizations -- enterprises that affect everything from air travel to agricultural development. you have opened your nation to trade and investment on a large scale. today, 40,000 young chinese study in the united states, with hundreds of thousands more learning in asia, africa, europe, and latin america.
your social and economic transformation has been even more remarkable, moving from a closed command economic system to a driving, increasingly market-based and driven economy, generating two decades of unprecedented growth, giving people greater freedom to travel within and outside china, to vote in village elections, to own a home, choose a job, attend a better school. as a result you have lifted literally hundreds of millions of people from poverty. per capita income has more than doubled in the last decade. most chinese people are leading lives they could not have imagined just 20 years ago.
of course, these changes have also brought disruptions in settled patterns of life and work, and have imposed enormous strains on your environment. once every urban chinese was guaranteed employment in a state enterprise. now you must compete in a job market. once a chinese worker had only to meet the demands of a central planner in beijing. now the global economy means all must match the quality and creativity of the rest of the world. for those who lack the right training and skills and support, this new world can be daunting.
in the short-term, good, hardworking people -- some, at least will find themselves unemployed. and, as all of you can see, there have been enormous environmental and economic and health care costs to the development pattern and the energy use pattern of the last 20 years -- from air pollution to deforestation to acid rain and water shortage.
in the face of these challenges new systems of training and social security will have to be devised, and new environmental policies and technologies will have to be introduced with the goal of growing your economy while improving the environment. everything i know about the intelligence, the ingenuity, the enterprise of the chinese people and everything i have heard these last few days in my discussions with president jiang, prime minister zhu and others give me confidence that you will succeed.
as you build a new china, america wants to build a new relationship with you. we want china to be successful, secure and open, working with us for a more peaceful and prosperous world. i know there are those in china and the united states who question whether closer relations between our countries is a good thing. but everything all of us know about the way the world is changing and the challenges your generation will face tell us that our two nations will be far better off working together than apart.
the late deng xiaoping counseled us to seek truth from facts. at the dawn of the new century, the facts are clear. the distance between our two nations, indeed, between any nations, is shrinking. where once an american clipper ship took months to cross from china to the united states. today, technology has made us all virtual neighbors. from laptops to lasers, from microchips to megabytes, an information revolution is lighting the landscape of human knowledge, bringing us all closer together. ideas, information, and money cross the planet at the stroke of a computer key, bringing with them extraordinary opportunities to create wealth, to prevent and conquer disease, to foster greater understanding among peoples of different histories and different cultures.
but we also know that this greater openness and faster change mean that problems which start beyond one nations borders can quickly move inside them -- the spread of weapons of mass destruction, the threats of organized crime and drug trafficking, of environmental degradation, and severe economic dislocation. no nation can isolate itself from these problems, and no nation can solve them alone. we, especially the younger generations of china and the united states, must make common cause of our common challenges, so that we can, together, shape a new century of brilliant possibilities.
in the 21st century -- your century -- china and the united states will face the challenge of security in asia. on the korean peninsula, where once we were adversaries, today we are working together for a permanent peace and a future freer of nuclear weapons.
on the indian subcontinent, just as most of the rest of the world is moving away from nuclear danger, india and pakistan risk sparking a new arms race. we are now pursuing a common strategy to move india and pakistan away from further testing and toward a dialogue to resolve their differences.
in the 21st century, your generation must face the challenge of stopping the spread of deadlier nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons. in the wrong hands or the wrong places, these weapons can threaten the peace of nations large and all. increasingly, china and the united states agree on the importance of stopping proliferation. that is why we are beginning to act in concert to control the worlds most dangerous weapons.
in the 21st century, your generation will have to reverse the international tide of crime and drugs. around the world, organized crime robs people of billions of dollars every year and undermines trust in government. america knows all about the devastation and despair that drugs can bring to schools and neighborhoods. with borders on more than a dozen countries, china has become a crossroad for ugglers of all kinds.
last year, president jiang and i asked senior chinese and american law enforcement officials to step up our cooperation against these predators, to stop money from being laundered, to stop aliens from being cruelly uggled, to stop currencies from being undermined by counterfeiting. just this month, our drug enforcement agency opened an office in beijing, and soon chinese counters experts will be working out of washington.
in the 21st century, your generation must make it your mission to ensure that today's progress does not come at tomorrow's expense. china's remarkable growth in the last two decades has come with a toxic cost, pollutants that foul the water you drink and the air you breathe -- the cost is not only environmental, it is also serious in terms of the health consequences of your people and in terms of the drag on economic growth.
environmental problems are also increasingly global as well as national. for example, in the near future, if present energy use patterns persist, china will overtake the united states as the world's largest emitter of greenhouse gases, the gases which are the principal cause of global warming. if the nations of the world do not reduce the gases which are causing global warming, sometime in the next century there is a serious risk of dramatic changes in climate which will change the way we live and the way we work, which could literally bury some island nations under mountains of water and undermine the economic and social fabric of nations.
we must work together. we americans know from our own experience that it is possible to grow an economy while improving the environment. we must do that together for ourselves and for the world.
building on the work that our vice president, al gore, has done previously with the chinese government, president jiang and i are working together on ways to bring american clean energy technology to help improve air quality and grow the chinese economy at the same time.
but i will say this again -- this is not on my remarks -- your generation must do more about this. this is a huge challenge for you, for the american people and for the future of the world. and it must be addressed at the university level, because political leaders will never be willing to adopt environmental measures if they believe it will lead to large-scale unemployment or more poverty. the evidence is clear that does not have to happen. you will actually have more rapid economic growth and better paying jobs, leading to higher levels of education and technology if we do this in the proper way. but you and the university, communities in china, the united states and throughout the world will have to lead the way. (applause.)
It is human nature that all of us should be fond of beauty. Everybody was born with a heart for beauty.
Today in China, with the rising of our living standard, people's requirement of beauty has been heIghtened accordingly. Some people spare no money or energy on beautiful clothes, fashionable hair styles, the decoration of their houses and even the improvement of their looks. But it seems to me,all
these are more or less confined to the beauty in appearance,or rather, the outward beauty.
In my opinion,we shouldn't only pay attention to beautiful appearance and neglect the beautification of the mind and what we are after should be the perfect unity of the outward beauty and the inner beauty. As we all know,so far as objects and animals are concerned, there is only beautiful appearance to be mentioned, but to us humanbeings, although the outward beauty really matters, the inner beauty is much more important. This was confirmed by a famous Russian writer in words much like this: "A person is
not lovely for being beautiful but beautiful for being lovely. "
Here, I'd like to quote two typical instances and I'm sure, my dear friends, from them you'll find out what real beauty is.
Recently I learned from the radio an unpleasant incident about a well known singer. She is very charming with a sweet beautiful voice and very famous for singing the song."Devotion of Love". Not long ago,she was invited to Zhejiang Province to give performance. The moment she was to appear on the stage, she suddenly asked for more reward. Worse still, after her request was satisfied, she didn't begin to sing at once. Instead, she took her time to count all the money piece by piece. Thus she kept the audience waiting for half an hour. So when she at last showed up and started to sing "Devotion of Love",a man rose up from his seat and shouted at her,"You don't have any devotion of love. You are not qualified to sing this song ! "Hearing this, the singer stopped singing and began to shout abuses with her finger pointed at the man. At this time the whole audience burst into an uproar.
How disappointed her keen listeners were when they learned this! It is the singer herself who spoiled her beautiful image in the eyes of others.
Now, I'm coming to another true story. It's about a poor, ordinary looking old woman. She was a widow without any children, living barely from hand to mouth by picking odds and ends from rubbish heaps. However, she took in more than ten homeless orphans successively and managed to bring them up. Every day she labored from morning till night. In order to earn as much money as possible to raise the children and to keep them in school, she even went to a hospital regularly to sell her blood. She got so weak for the loss of blood that she sometimes fell in a faint on her way home.
Responsibility is a Badge of Honour for Youth(96
Facing this audience on the stage, I have the exciting feeling of participating in the march of history, for what we are facing today is more than a mere competition or contest. It is an assembly of some of China's most talented and motivated people, representatives of a younger generation that are preparing themselves for the coming of a new century.
I'm grateful that I've been given this opportunity, at such a historic moment, to stand here as a spokean of my generation and to take a serious look back at the past 15 years, a crucial period for every one of us and for this nation as well.
Though it is only within my power to tell about my personal experience, and only a tiny fragment of it at that, it still represents, I believe, the root of a spirit which has been essential to me and to all the people bred by the past 15 years.
In my elementary years, there was a little girl in the CLASs who worked very hard but somehow could never do satisfactorily in her lessons.
The teacher asked me to help her, and it was obvious that she expected a lot from me. but as a young boy, restless, thoughtless, I always tried to evade her so as to get more time to enjoy myself.
One day before the final exam, she came up to me and said, "Could you please explain this to me? I want very much to do better this time. " I started explaining, and finished in a hurry. Pretending not to notice her still confused eyes, I ran off quickly. Nat surprisingly, she again did very badly in the exam. And two months later, at the beginning of the new semester, word came of her death of blood cancer. No one ever knew about the little task I failed to fulfill, but I couldn't forgive myself. I simply couldn't forget her eyes, which seem to be asking, "Why didn't you do a little more to help me, when it was so easy for you? Why didn't you understand a little better the trust placed in you, so that I would not have to leave this world in such pain and regret?"
I was about eight or nine years old at that time, but in a way it was the very starting point of my life, for I began to understand the word "responsibility" and to learn to always do my duties faithfully and devotedly, for the implications of that sacred word has dawned on me: the mutual need and trust of people, the co-operation and inter-reliance which are the very foundation of human society.
Later in my life, I continued to experience many failures. But never again did I feel that regret which struck me at the death of the girl, for it makes my heart satisfied to think that I have always done everything in my power to fulfill my responsibilities as best I can.
As I grew up, changed and improved by this incident and many other similar ones, I began to perceive the changes taking place around me and to find that society, in a way, was in its formative years like myself. New buildings, new commodities and new fashions appear every day.
New ideas, new information, new technologies. People can talk with each other from any corner of the earth in a matter of seconds. Society is becoming more competitive.
Words like individuality and creativity are getting more emphasis and more people are rewarded for their hard work and efforts. Such is the era in which this generation ,grows and matures.
Such is the era in which this generation will take over the nation from our fathers and learn to run it. Yet in the meantime, many problems still exist.
We learn that crimes take place in broad daylight with crowds of people looking on and not assisting. We hear that there are still about 1 million children in this country who can't even afford to go to elementary schools while enormous sums of money are being squandered away on dinner parties and luxury cars.
We buy shoddy medicines, or merely worthless junk in the name of medicines, that aggravate, rather than alleviate our diseases since money, many people believe, is the most important thing in the world that must be made, even at the expense of morality and responsibility.
Such an era, therefore, determines that we are a generation with a keener sense of competition and efficiency and a greater readiness to think critically and act creatively.
Such an era, furthermore, demands, that we are a generation with a clear perception of our historical responsibility and an aggressive will to take action and solve the problems. History has long been preparing these qualities in this generation and it is now calling us forward to give testimony to our patrioti and heroi towards this nation and all humanity.
Standing here now, I think of the past 15 years of my life as an ordinary student. Probably I'll be an ordinary man for the rest of my life. But this doesn't discourage me any, for I know that with my sense of responsibility and devoted efforts to always strive, for the best, it's going to be a meaningful and worthwhile life that I will be living.
Standing here now, I think of the past 15 years of this nation, which has achieved greatness that inspired millions of people of my age, most of whom will not attain fame or prestige and only a few of whom will be remembered by posterity. But that doesn't discourage us any, because we know that the world watches, the world listens, the world is waiting to see where this nation will be heading in a time of rich opportunities and fierce competition.
I can't ever forget that little girl in my CLASS who couldn't had the same opportunities as any of us here to enjoy a wonderful life today and a hopeful world tomorrow.
It is the sacred responsibility of this generation to face up to the challenges of the new century and to devote our sweat and blood, our wisdom and passion, to the historic cause of making this nation a greater and happier land for every one of us.
We are not going to evade that responsibility. We are going to let people down. And people, far and near, will hear of us. Frost will be brought to their backbones and tears to their eyes when our stories are told and retold, So let us go forth, my fellow members of this luckily chosen generation, and meet the new century in victory and glory.
Knowing the Consequences of Choice
Over the past Spring Festival, I got involved in a family dispute. Right before I got home, four satellite channels of CCTV were added to the 14 channels we had already had. In prime time at night, they all had interesting shows. Therefore, the five of us-my parents, my sisters and I-had to argue over what to watch. Finally, we agreed that we should watch the "most interesting" programme... If we
could agree what that was.
However, all of us there remember that for a long time after we had TV, there were only one or two channels available. The increase in options reveals an important change in our life: the abundance of choice.
Fifteen years ago we all dressed in one style and in one colour. Today, we select from a wide variety of designs and shades.

I received a devastating blow to my self-confidence in the first interview of my college years. I applied to be a host in our Student Acting Troupe and felt confident that I would be accepted. But one of the panel members told me: "You seem inadequate and you are a little vertically-challenged." My life has never been the same since. I used bigger heels to complement my HEiGhT and psychological maneuvers and tricks to hide my lack of confidence. But no matter how hard I tried to look the part, there was still something missing.
As president of English Club, I organized the rehearsal of Snow White for an English party. Unfortunately, we could not find an actor to be the last dwarf. It had to be someone who was humorous by nature and fluent in English. Suddenly, all eyes turned to me, and I knew I would have to be the dwarf. To my great surprise and delight, once on stage, I was totally absorbed in the performance and my humorous nature was put to full use. As the dwarf, I was a big hit.
Yes, each of us is only one among millions of others, but each of us is an individual and each of us is unique. Cultivating our individuality will transform our lives, making of them a kaleidoscope of new colors and textures.
A world deprived of diversity would be a bland and boring place. The real tragedy is not being short or shy or ugly, but having your identity lost in a world in which everyone is a clone of a model cool boy or a flawless charming girl.
Given a choice, I would rather be ugly than live in such a world. I'd rather be a genuine dwarf accompanying a Snow White than be a Snow White among nothing but Snow Whites. I would rather be myself. I would contribute my individual and unique colors to create a more diverse universe. Please, be yourself.

look! there is a rainbow! on the first day of my university life, when i walked into the campus, there was a rainbow bridging over the fountain, i hadn’t seen rainbow for a long time. i was so excited, and leaped high with joy. my ponytail danced with my happiness. it was a propitious sign indicated that my life in university would be colorful, and actually it is!
after my entry into university, i found my life so busy. what i should do is not only gaining the scholarship but also being a good monitor and leader of shanghai university percussion band. i got the 1st and 2nd price of scholarship in my 2 years of study. i organized charity donations for schoolmates with financial difficulty or disease. every week, i give drum lesson to new members of our percussion band. and there are always a lot of non-business performances, such as entertaining guests, celebrating party, cultural exchange with foreign students delegations and their bands. of course, part-time job is indispensable in my vacations. i ask for no payment but aim at getting accustomed to the society.
sometimes, my friends advise me not to tire myself out with such a tight schedule. i wake up before the rooster crow, and continue working till very late when others are enjoying their sweet dreams. every time i come back from the rehearsal of percussion band, i have to finish my homework with the help of my own charged light because of the blackout in out dormitory. maybe such kind of life is something like an ascetic, but we should work hard and try hard in our youth, aren’t we?
when i represented shanghai university to take part in the pond’s new century lady competition held in may, when i show off on the stage, when i emerged as “the girl of vitality”, i made use of every bit of time to compensate the classes i had missed, i made use of every chance to learn from other girls with vitality, versatility and intelligence, i made use of this opportunity to present our university students’ state of mind.
there is a little bitterness in my busy life, but at the same time, there is sweetness. it is colorful. i make fun out of it. i love it. when i snatch a little leisure i lie on the green grass, reading books, i cripple myself in the window-seat in our library---the 2nd largest in shanghai---i absorb knowledge like a hungry sponge, i wonder along the bank of river, listening to oriels in willows and get a splendid sunset view of the campus. the sky is drunk with the sunset; i am drunk with the sweetness of my like.

Ladies and Gentlemen:
Today I’m glad that I’m standing here talking to you all. As the title given, I am going to talk you about a way of treating people and things in life. My speech here basically includes 2 parts, in the former of which I‘ll describe you the present occasion we teenagers are in., as well as the reason behind. Then it’s about the several opinions of mine toward the case above.
Undoubtedly, every one of us has stepped into adolescence, a period of time where the most
exciting and mysterious changes take place. Boys, apparently become more ambitious. Girls, in some ways, start to dream and become more sensitive about the world. All in all, as if our emotions become much stronger, somehow we’re always trapped in circles and struggling against something that can’t be changed anyway. We complain about how fragile our friendship is, how little people know about us, how unfair the life is,etc. It seems that every time we fail, we blame it to the tough conditions we’re in, while never notice a problem inside ourselves, that we’re never satisfied.
Let’s just imagine that there was an old lady. What she sees was her neighbors’ being mean again while not how kind they were when they took care of her sick body. What she saw was her dog’s annoying barking while not how much loyalty it had shown. What she saw was always so depressing that it finally turned her into an unpleasant person. Think about how our life would be if we stand in her shoe.
Why don’t we focus our attention on how much we’ve already got in stead? You know it’s really simple to do as there’s a tremendous amount of examples. Like the popular Jetpack Joy Ride on your Iphone, you can enjoy it whenever you like, whereas in some poor area people don’t even know such thing as Iphone.
Actually we should be thankful about the richness we’ve got, thankful that with each sunrise taking place we don’t need to starve to call it a day, thankful that the people we love are still in health, that we still got much to hold on. As a saying on website,” The world is tough, but I’m tougher.” What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.
Every day is a gift from life, all we need is to accept it, cherish the lessons life has taught us, so as to achieve our goal with high spirit. In this way, someday when we leave the world, we leave no regrets.
Thank you for listening.
